KHARAR, January 12: A high voter turnout amidst several incidents of impersonation and tension in some areas marked the Kharar Municipal council polls here today. A total of 76 candidates, including 23 women contested the polls.

With an average polling of 85 per cent, the civic elections generally passed of peacefully, except for one or two unruly incidents.

A total of 19,583 electorates exercised their franchise to elect 15 representatives. These included 9,368 women voters. According to information available, the highest polling was recorded at ward no 12, where 1,789 votes were polled, while the minimum polling was recorded at ward no 4, where 1,016 votes were polled.

Supporters gave a tough time to the police in ward numbers 1,2,8,10,14 and 15, where tension prevailed throughout the day, as mounted police intervened many a times to ward off supporters of both groups to avoid a clash.

Meanwhile polling remained at a high ebb throughout the day and an average polling of 26 per cent and 74 per centwas recorded till 10 am and 2 pm.

Sources add that several impersonators who were detected were held at the polling booths and were let off by officials after the polling ended. The police did not confirm registeration of any cases of impersonation.

Complaints of bogus voting came from several wards, with young boys and migatory labourers posing as voters. The following are the results :
Ward 1 : Sushma Verma, Ward 2 : Kuldeep Singh, Ward 3:Gurdial Singh, Ward 4: Sher Kaur, Ward 5: Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Ward 6: Swaran Singh Heera (a former MC chief), Ward 7: Gurmeet kaur, Ward 8: Charanjit Singh (a former Kharar MC president), Ward 9: Roshan Lal, Ward 10: Swaranjit Kaur, Ward 11: Preet Kanwal Singh, Ward 12: Ranbir Singh, Ward 13: Baljinder Kaur, Ward 14: Natrajan Kaushal, Ward 15: Om Prakash Aggarwal (a former MC and BJP leader).The prominent among those who lost, include Om Prakash Sharma- a former MC chief, Sudarshan Verma, Satish Kumari, Meena Rani, Ajit Singh and Pritam Singh.

Meanwhile the results of the Kurali MC poLls, held on January 2 were declared today. A total of 48 candidates had contested the polls for 13 seats. The winners are :
Ward 1: Amarjeet Kaur, Ward 2: Vinod Kumar Sharma, Ward 3: Netar Muni, ward 4: Bhagwanti, Ward 5: Krishnan Lal, Ward 6: Jaswinder Singh, Ward 7: Kaushalya Devi, Ward 8: Pardeep Kumar, Ward 9: Dayal Singh, Ward 10: Nirmal Gupta, Ward 11: Makhan Singh, Ward 12: Ram Singh, Ward 13: Suman. uCN
