
Seven villagers and two Naxalites were killed and at least 12 villagers injured in Maoist attacks on six villages in Bijapur district of Bastar in Chhattisgarh, police said.
Targeting the villagers who were participating in the anti-Naxalite movement, over 250 Maoists attacked Kutru, Ambeli, Pharsgaon, Uskapatnam, Badekarkeli and Chhotekarkeli villages here yesterday, police officers said.
Two villagers were killed on the spot and Maoists abducted five others, whose bodies were found near Pharasgaon police station area today, police said.
The villagers told police that at least two Naxalites were also killed as they retaliated with bows and arrows. IG (law and order) Ram Niwas said a team has been rushed to the spot.
Anti-mine vehicles land
NAGPUR: Police in the Naxal-infested Gadchiroli district of east Maharashtra have been provided two anti-landmine vehicles. The two vehicles, which reached the district headquarters on Saturday, would be deployed for tackling Naxals deep in the forest, SP shirish Jain said.
