June 30: The Videocon Squash Classic has provided a squash a major filip. The Rs 4 lakhs at stake as prize-money, making it the richest event, acted as a tremendous incentive, backed by sound organisation by the Indian Squash Professionals’ Association who conducted the tournament.
As many as 250 entries for the four events and more than 100 players vied for honours, braving the qualifying rounds in the men’s and boys under 19. The 23 entries for the women’s event has surpassed even the National championship and indicates the growing popularity of squash among the fair sex.
What a strong attraction the Videocon Classic proved is gauged from the fact that Udai Singh who won the men’s title as well as Rohan Bappu who claimed the boys under 19 honours.
