Meanwhile, a gesture from Indian captain Anil Kumble today came as a shot in the arm for chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar. Asked to throw light on whether the playing XI of the first Test will be maintained for the Kolkata Test, Kumble straightaway made it clear that he was waiting for Vengsarkar to make the final call. “Whether we will play three spinners here or not, or whether the same XI will be played, that decision we will take later. In fact, it’s up to Vengsarkar. I am waiting for him to arrive here, and only then we will announce the playing XI,” Kumble clarified. Vengsarkar did arrive later and the squad was named unchanged.
