Believe it or not there happens to be a commando among the 27 Delhi Ranji Trophy team probables who are presently attending a preparatory camp at the Ferozeshah Kotla.
The 23-year-old Parambir Nagar, a relatively unknown cricketer, stands out at the nets with his 6 feet frame. A commando in the Delhi Police stationed at the DCP Office in Daryaganj, Parambir was a surprise inclusion in the list of 27 although he did not figure in the earlier list of 43, announced a fortnight ago.
Parambir has not played much competitive cricket in the last two years although he turned out for Delhi Police in the DDCA A1 Division league last year when they emerged champions. In the five matches he played, Parambir Nagar claimed 17 wickets, with his best effort being 5/15 against Delhi Administration at Ramjas Sports Complex. Playing for Malviya Club in the Mata Seetla Prasad tournament in Mohan Nagar this March, he took 3/15 against Chand Khanna Club.
The Delhi Policeman was among the 45 initially called for trials last year but was subsequently dropped.
Five years ago, he had attended a summer camp in Chail (Himachal Pradesh) conducted by Bishan Singh Bedi and was declared the best bowler.
‘‘I rely more on speed although I can swing the ball both ways,’’ said Parambir, who was confident of making it to the final Delhi Ranji Trophy squad this year.
