While the advertisement for the post of AIIMS Director barred all government servants of 60 years and above from applying, the Union Health Ministry did get applications from some eminent names past that bar. The names included Dr K K Talwar and Dr Kartar Singh from PGI, Chandigarh, Dr T D Dogra, acting director of AIIMS, Dr N P Gupta from AIIMS and some others also known to be close associates of Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss. Now the ministry is thinking how to include them in the fray, and one idea is already here. “Since they belong to autonomous institutes they can be given a chance, although they are 60 years and above,” said a member of the selection committee headed by the Health Minister.
