Indian star batsman Rahul Dravid hit an unbeaten 97-ball 120 to propel English county side Scotland to 296 for four in 45 overs against Somerset in a national cricket league division two match at Taunton today.
Displaying a tremendous array of strokes, Dravid hit 10 fours and three huge sixes during his 126 minutes knock to put Scotland in a comfortable position.
Coming to the crease at the fall of John Williamson (0), Dravid added 117 runs with opener R Watson for the third wicket to take the score to 166 before the latter was trapped leg before by Simon Francis for 75.
Putting behind the disappointment of a first-ball duck against the touring Pakistan side in a one-day match last week, which Scotland lost by one wicket, Dravid played with confidence to complete his century in 89 balls. He put on 100 runs for the fourth wicket with J Kent (48) to help his side finish on 296. Somerset need 297 runs at 6.7 to win the match.
Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag’s woeful run with the bat continued as he was out for a duck against Worcestershire in a national cricket league division one match at the county ground, Worcester today. Sehwag was castled by left-arm pacer Mark Harrity after adding 10 runs with his opening partner Phillip Defreitas in nine minutes. Mohammad Kaif, another Indian in the county circuit, was also dismissed cheaply today scoring only 12 runs as defeat stared at Derbyshire, who were precariously placed at 58 for four after 15 overs in reply to Lancashire’s 251 for six in 45 overs at the county ground, Derby.
