For budding professional women golfers in the country there is a whole new challenge to look forward to. The first edition of the ProcewaterhouseCoopers Invitational Golf tournament, unique in itself as a one-day prize money tournament, will have another novelty. For the first time in India, women and men professional golfers will be part of the same pro-am field. As the first tournament to be hosted at the Classic Golf Resort in Gurgaon after the course’s reopening, the Invitational will be a Rs 75,000 event, with prizes for the top ten of the 12 women pros. The one-day 18-hole stableford competition will be held on January 26. The pro-am on the following day will see some of the bigger names from the men’s side turn out. The 12 men include top names like Gaurav Ghei, Rahil Gangjee, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Digvijay Singh and Ashok Kumar, along with Sri Lankans Anura Rohana and BG Lalith Kumara. The Women’s Golf Association of India backed tournament is the first ever sports event being title-sponsored by PWC in India. According to PWC partner Kaushik Dutta, the idea was to make a difference and contribute where it is really needed.
