
Oropesa del mor (spain), Nov 2: Aarthie Ramaswamy inched closer to a World Championship title in girls’ under-18 category after drawing with 12th seed Lela Javakhishvili of Georgia in the eighth round of the World Boys and Girls age-group chess championships here.
In the boys under-10, Rahul Sangma drew with Dmitri Andreikine of Russia in a Sicilian Defence closed game to remain the joint leader on 6.5 points alongwith three others.
In other matches, Koneru Humpy (under-12), Eesha Karavade (under-12), Tania Sachdev (under-14), Shraddha Samat (under-14), notched up victories for India.
Aarthie employed the King’s Indian defence to draw the game in 17 moves but not before the queen’s got exchanged.
Opening badly, Sangma lost a piece, however, the Russian blundered the piece back to help draw the see-saw battle.
Koneru Humpy used the Pric Defence to her advantage and did not let go the control to defeat Varvara Kirillova of Russia. She is now in second position with seven points.
Eesha Karavade usedthe Torre Attack to outwit Smarag Damandaiaki of Greece. Eesha immediately got into a good position when her opponent failed to play C5. She then attacked on the king side and won a piece which sealed the fate of the Greek girl.
Tania Sachdev beat Behada Vega Gutiernez (Spain) while Shraddha Samant defeated A Benggawan (Canada).
