Abhi-Ash wedding: Police tied up in knots

The Mumbai Police are conducting an inquiry into allegations that UP Police commandos, who were seen roughing up photojournalists covering the Abhi-Ash wedding, were at the spot with the Bachchans despite the absence of their protectee — Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh.

The Mumbai Police say they want to know why the UP Police did not tell them about the commandos’ four-day stay during the wedding, and why the commandos turned on the media when Mumbai Police personnel were already present there.

V K Chaube, deputy commissioner of police, Zone IX, said: “The UP Police did not inform us about the movement of Amar Singh’s security cover. Security, law and order are state subjects.The state police should be informed of the presence of other state’s personnel.” But Amar Singh said,“Whenever I go to any state, I inform the police. Everybody knew that Mulayam Singhji and I would be there. If the Mumbai Police did not take cognisance of my intimation, it’s not my problem.”
