PUNE, July 18: Nothing could stop the winning spree of the Karnataka girl Abhinaya Shetty, who added four more gold medals to her overnight tally of two on the second day of the 24th Junior National Aquatic Championship at the Mhalunge Balewadi Sports Complex, here today.
The second-year Commerce student of the St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, Abhinaya, swept aside all her challengers in the three individual events and added another gold by anchoring the 4x100m freestyle relay team to victory.
Karnataka laid siege on the pool, virtually, pocketing 10 of the 13 gold medals at stake today with their tally reading an impressive 17 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze medals.
International Elvis Ali Hazarika of Assam finally made his presence felt in the championship when he won two gold medals.
Yesterday Hazarika had won only one silver in the 200 metres IM as Karnataka’s Hakimuddin emerged winner in the 200m IM group-I.
Today, Hazarika avenged that defeat by outsmarting Hakimuddin in both events which pitted them and made it a golden double.
