
MADURAI, November 26: Members of the Jayalalitha Peravai today offered Palabhishekam (Bathing with Milk) to a clay model of Justice Jain, as a counter to some DMK men burning effigies of the justice all over Tamil Nadu in protest against the indictment of the DMK government in the commission’s interim report. About 200 Peravai members gathered near the Goripalayam junction here with the clay model and welcomed the Commission’s findings.
They shouted slogans against the DMK Government, charging that the party had shown disrespect to the Indian Constitution and also to Justice Jain. They also demanded that the DMK government be immediately dismissed for remaining a mute spectator to the contemptuous behaviour’ of partymen. Meanwhile, elsewhere in Chennai, volunteers of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) today burnt copies of the Jain Commission’s report and torched the effigies of Justice M C Jain, in the busy Parry’s Corner area.
Police sources said they were arrested and later released on bail. In yet another place in the city, similar demonstrations were held but no arrests were made.
