With news filtering in that the International Cricket Council president, Percy Sonn, is critically ill, speculations are rife as to who will step into his shoes in case of an emergency.
There have been claims that the ICC constitution does not state clearly who will automatically take over as president in such a situation. But Brian Murgatroyd, ICC’s media and communications manager, in an email, clarified: “There is no uncertainty. The (executive) board has the prerogative to appoint an acting president ahead of a decision on a permanent president should the worst happen.”
Sania falters in final
Top seeds Sania Mirza and Yung-Jan Chan of Taiwan were upset by an unseeded Polish pair in the doubles final of the $200,000 Istanbul Cup women’s tennis tournament in Turkey today.
Sania and Yung-Jan’s 1-6, 3-6 loss to Agnieszka Radwanska and Urszula Radwanska crushed the Indian star’s hopes of back-to-back WTA doubles titles.
Sania had bagged her fourth doubles crown at the Morocco Open last week, partnering Vania King.
