Senior Pakistan Supreme Court judge Bhagwan Das, who is to be sworn in as the acting Chief Justice, is presently on a pilgrimage to Lucknow and has been staying in the Sindhu Nagar locality since the past four days.

The Pakistan Government on Saturday announced that Justice Das would be given the charge of Acting Chief Justice of the country on his return from India.

According to Shrichand, who is associated with Gita Gyan Satsang, the judge has refused to meet mediapersons. “He has authorised me to communicate to the press about his return to Pakistan and would join his duty day after tomorrow,” he said.

The presence of Justice Bhagwan Das — only Hindu to have risen to the highest level of Pakistan’s judiciary — in Lucknow surprised not only mediapersons but also the Intelligence agencies.

A source close to the judge said he frequently visited Lucknow to attend religious programmes and had never sought any security for himself. The source, who added that he attended Satsang everyday in the morning, refused to disclose the venue.
