GURGAON, JANUARY 10: Keeping in view the increasing incidents of loot and theft in the city, the district police have deployed two companies of Haryana police commandos. The commandos have been put on patrolling duties at various crowded and sensitive spots after two brazen incidents of robbery in the general post office and at a jeweller’s shop in the busy Roshanpura locality.

The recent incidents have put the police in a spot since both the robberies took place in the heart of city. The deputy inspector general (DIG), Gurgaon range, P.K. Mehta has also taken a stern view of these incidents and as a fallout of Jan 9 robbery at Roshanpura the station house officer (SHO), Vinod Kaushik has been placed under suspension.

The district police force have been put on an alert with the senior superintendent of police and deputy superintendent of police themselves doing rounds of the city intensively.

But their inability to trace the gangs involved in these robberies despite having vital clues have brought in critiism for the police.

Besides, regular incidents of auto lifting, car stereo thefts and burglaries too have not done any good to the image of the Gurgaon police. At least a dozen incidents of stereo thefts and attempts to steal have been reported from the sector 15 part I in the recent past. The president of the residents welfare association, Kamla Chowdhary, in a letter to the Senior Superintendent of Police Gurgaon had apprised him about the alarming increase in thefts which has created a feeling of insecurity among the residents.
