Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani today ruled out ny possiblity of Indian security officials going to Pakistan with the nation’s cricket team, saying the onus would be on Pakistan to ensure nothing happens.
Speaking to reporters in the capital today, Advani said, ‘‘I have seen reports in the media. No Indian security officials will travel with the Indian cricket team to Pakistan. I do not know how reports attributing this to the Home Ministry have been appearing. We have no role to play in this. It is for Pakistan to provide security to the Indian cricket team.’’
Expressing surprise over the continued mention of the Home Ministry in the sports pages, Advani said, ‘‘I am sometimes surprised as to how in this issue the Home Ministry has come into the picture and why.’’
Replying to a question, Advani also denied the fact that the three-member BCCI team to Pakistan had furnished a report to him on their return.
