PUNE, Oct 13: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation standing committee today approved its ambitious adventure park project, to be built and operated by private parties on 17 acres of land at the quarry-site near Chinchwad.
The corporation has in principle allotted the work to Panchshil Hotel on agreed terms and conditions. The land along Telco Road was owned by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation earlier. It was acquired by the PCMC.
The land will be leased to Panchshil for 29 years. It has been reserved for developing a tourist spot in the development plan.
The PCMC had made a budgetary provision of Rs 6.57 crore last year and had invited offers for completing the project in December. Noted planner Nachiket Patwardhan was handed over the work of making the detailed plans for the park.
The park will have several major attractions such as a swimming pool complex, aquarium, suspended bridge, mono-rail, jogging park, tropical forest cover, a ground for organising fairs, lawns, water tanks, and water falls. According to the estimates of Panchshil, the likely expenditure on developing the park will be between Rs 15 crore and Rs 20 crore.
It has suggested additional features such as an artificial sea beach, wave pool, open auditorium, musical fountains, park for children, and a restaurant.
According to the terms and conditions of the PCMC, Panchsil will pay a fee of Rs 2.5 lakh between three and five years after opening the park. Later a ten per cent rise every three years has been proposed. Panchshil will have to carry out the work as per the plans provided by the PCMC. Students of civic schools will be allowed free entry at the park once a week.
While the terms and conditions have been accepted by Panchsil, it has been asked to submit a detailed report within six months. The PCMC will have the right to cancel the agreement if the expected progress was not seen in three years. The corporation will provide recycled water for the park, and also provide water supply. The drainage will also be completed by the corporation.
Meanwhile, the committee meeting presided over by chairman Suryakant Thorat sanctioned other civic development works costing Rs 7.59 crore. An amount of Rs 1.11 crore towards payment of bonus and festival advance to the PCMT employees, besides Rs 2.9 lakh for a joint office for exchange of information on civic projects between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Bremen (Germany). The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing has agreed to impart computer training to the civic employees, for which Rs 10 lakh have been sanctioned.
