BJP chief M. Venkaiah Naidu came to Mumbai blistering that the state government has lost the ‘‘moral authority’’ to govern. He brought along with him a sign of the approaching election season—a TV personality to describe the BJP-led coalition at the Centre as ‘‘amazing.’’

Sudha Chandran, the Nache Mayuri star now known as the shrewish Ramola Sikand in Kahin Kissi Roz, was formally inducted into the BJP, today in Mumbai. ‘‘I’ve not been following politics,’’ she said, adding ‘‘I’ve always respected Atalji’’ and ‘‘I’m a proud citizen.’’

Chandran—the second TV star on board the BJP bandwagon after Smriti Z. Iraani—cited her reasons for joining the party. ‘‘These days when you shop abroad you buy less because everything is available in India,’’ she said earnestly. ‘‘As a commoner, I think the NDA’s performance is amazing.’’

Venkaiahji smiled in approval and said the party’s doors were open for more such personalities to turn the elections into a ‘‘people’s campaign’’.

She vowed to play the role of a ‘‘vamp’’ for the Congress and said she would use the BJP for rehabilitative work for the disabled. ‘‘I know how a disabled person feels, I know where the shoe pinches,’’ she said. When asked why the BJP was inducting only women artistes, Naidu retorted, ‘‘Is Shatrughan Sinha female? Is Vinod Khanna female?” he retorted, promising to bring a male star next time.
