EDINBURGH, Oct 24: The British Government has drawn up an elaborate programme for the wives of the leaders of the Commonwealth to enable them to see glimpses of Scottish arts and culture while their husbands debate intricate issues of trade, investment, environment and democracy.

The wife of every head of state or Government will be assigned a woman constable — reportedly nicknamed spouse girls’ by their colleagues.

Apart from being invited to dinners by the British Queen and British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the Palace of Holy Roadhouse and Parliament Hall, the spouses’ programme includes a visit tomorrow to Culrosss, Fife, a conservation village. The same day, they will have lunch hosted by the wife of Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, Bunmi Aenyaoku.
