Seven elected unopposed to panchayats
Seven candidates, including four of the BJP, two of the Congress and an Independent, have been declared elected unopposed as the last date for withdrawls for panchayat by-elections in 49 talukas expired on September 26. The by-elections for the remaining 28 seats and mid-term poll for 14 will be held on October 10. In all, 105 candidates are in the race.
IA timings
Indian Airlines has rescheduled flight CD 103/104 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays till October 25. Flight CD 103 will leave Mumbai at 7.45 pm and arrive at Ahmedabad at 8.45 pm. The pairing flight CD 104 will leave Ahmedabad at 9.15 pm to reach Mumbai at 10.15 pm.
RBI drive
The Reserve Bank of India, Ahmedabad, will launch a special drive on October 5 for exchange of Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 notes for with coins in the same denomination and notes of denomination Rs 10 or higher in terms of the Note Refund Rules. Additional counters will operate on all working days during banking hours, according to officials. The RBI will remain open on September 30 for two hours.
Wildlife Week
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will celebrate Wildlife Week from October 1. The recreation and cultural committee says the zoo will remain open for children from 8 am to 12 noon. Entry will be free.
Unleaded petrol
A petrol pump, owned by the Civil Supplies Department in Gandhinagar, has started selling unleaded petrol. Only those having catalytic convertor on their vehicles can use this petrol which helps control air pollution.
Camp
A camp for the handicapped is planned at Vaktarpur (Himmatnagar) from October 1 to 4, by Mahavir Viklang Centre of Rajasthan Hospital. Artificial legs, polio calipers, crutches and splints will be distributed free.
Replacement
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will seek a replacement from the State Government as deputy municipal commissioner Anita Karwal is going to Hyderabad on deputation. Commissioner B K Sinha says she had gone on leave but owing to sickness she has been unable to resume duty. And appointments in the place of deputy municipal commissioners N P Patel and P B Naik will not be decided under pressure, he adds.
Takes over
Gujarat Planning Commission deputy chairman Suryakant Acharya, economic advisor to the Chief Minister S K Shelat and science and technology advisor to CM N V Vasani took the oath of office and secrecy on Monday.
