Miami, Mar 27: A suffering Pete Sampras scripted a 5-7, 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 victory over Swedish teen Andreas Vinciguerra in the third round of the Ericsson Open Tennis Masters Series event on Sunday.Vinciguerra saw a seven-match winning streak come to an end.Sampras will next face Briton Greg Rusedski, another left-hander, who recovered from the distraction of two foot-faults in the second set to defeat Zimbabwe's Byron Black 6-1, 7-6 (7/4).Australian Patrick Rafter, who was also forced out of the US Open last year by injury and went on to miss nearly six months, also came back from one-set down to defeat France's Sebastian Grosjean 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.Seventh seed Swede, Thomas Enqvist, advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Brazil's Fernando Meligeni 6-4, 6-3, while American Jan Michael Gambill upset fifth-seeded Swede Magnus Norman 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.Third seed Russian, Yevgeni Kafelnikov moved smoothly through, as did young Australian Lleyton Hewitt, winner of three tournaments already this year.On the women's side, Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport continued their progress to an expected meeting in the final.Hingis, the top seed, who must out-perform Davenport here to retain the World number one ranking, defeated France's Anne-Gaelle Sidot 6-0, 6-3.Lindsay Davenport, seeded second but indisputably the best player on the women's tour right now, beat Silvija Talaja 6-2, 6-2.France's Nathalie Dechy ousted her fourth-seeded compatriot Nathalie Tauziat 6-4, 6-2, while fifth seed Serena Williams, number six Conchita Martinez and number seven Monica Seles all advanced.
