Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday took the battle over liquor vends to the national Capital. SAD activists staged demonstrations against the Punjab government’s auction of liquor vends which, they alleged, violated the Election Commission’s code of conduct.
The move smacked of CM Amarinder Singh’s own tactics of launching a media blitzkreig on corruption against the Akalis from Delhi for impact. Some 500 agitators, claiming to be persons affected in the alleged inappropriate auctioning, were supported by the Akalis; party MLA from Qila Raipur in Ludhiana, Jagdeesh Singh Garcha, led them.
