Wednesday was a day of upsets at the first Fantoosh national sub-junior super league chess championship here. The leaders Jharkhand’s Deep Sengupta (8) and Bengal’s Mary Ann Gomes (7.5) lost to lower-rated Akshayraj Kore of Maharashtra and Kiran Monisha Mohanty of Orissa in the boys and girls sections respectively, but continued to lead the table at the end of the tenth round. The former World under-12 champion, Deep lost to Akshay in the King’s Indian Defence game. Akshay won a won pawn in the middlegame and improved his position slowly.
