It’s now the turn of former Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan to join the Ambekar bandwagon in Uttar Pradesh. State BJP chief Vinay Katiyar has already set a debate in motion through his tour in which he is projecting Ambekar as anti-Muslim, a strategy that the champions of the Dalit cause are finding difficult to digest.

At a press conference, Paswan said conflicting statements by BJP leaders on Ambedkar’s views regarding Muslims were part of a well-planned strategy of the ruling coalition.

‘‘The statements are like different channels on the same TV set, catering to different interest. The BJP is trying to consolidate its Hindu vote bank whereas the BSP is trying to keep its flock intact and in this attempt, both the parties are downgrading the stature of Ambedkar,’’ he claimed.
