Taking a swipe at JD(U) leader George Fernandes’s renewed attempts to lead a Third Front, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh said there could be no front without the Left and his own party. ‘‘There can be no consolidation of the Third Front without the Left, followed by the SP, as together we hold more than 100 MPs,’’ Singh told The Indian Express. He also dismissed Fernandes’s attempts to forge the Front saying ‘‘as long as the JD(U) continues to remain with the BJP, there can be no consolidation of a Front.’’Meanwhile, a day before attending the RSS national executive meeting to assure the Sangh Parivar of the BJP’s commitment to a distinct ideology, BJP chief L.K. Advani assured Fernandes today the BJP was equally keen on maintaining ties with its ‘‘secular” allies.
