PATIALA, May 27: Congress leader Amarinder Singh here today alleged that the Shiromani Akali Dal decision to file a defamation case against him was “a clear attempt to delay the Akal Takht decision because SGPC chief G.S. Tohra knows he is guilty”.
Talking to newsmen, the Congress leader said the plan was obviously to file a defamation case in a court of law and then plead with the Akal Takht to keep the matter pending on the plea that it was sub-judice.
He said he was prepared to a face defamation case in any court, in any case including the case of alleged fabrication of Tohra’s photograph but not till a final decision was taken by the Akal Takht.
Punjab Chief Minister had yesterday stated that his party would file a defamation case against Amarinder Singh for mud-slinging against Akali leader and “fabricating ” a photograph of SGPC chief G.S. Tohra.
Amarinder Singh alleged that Tohra and his men were tampering with evidence and witnesses. Therefore, he said, he reiterated his plea for a full-fledged inquiry commission comprising two retired Supreme Court judges to go into the entire case.
He maintained that the bogey over authenticity of the picture was being raised to divert attention from the vital question – did Tohra go to the Nirankari Bhawan or not?
“If Tohra is a true Sikh and his mind and heart are clear, why does he not go to the Akal Takht and state on oath that he did not go to the Nirankari Bhawan in Patiala on February 15 ?,” the Congress leader quipped.
