.

BABA Amarnath Yatra Nyas, organiser of the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath caves, has announced that it would hold the yatra for two months defying government orders to restrict it to a month.

‘‘All restrictions will be defied if the authorities try to place a check on the pilgrims to proceed towards the holy pilgrimage,” which will begin on the day of Vyas Purnima on July 2 and conclude on August 31 on Raksha Bandhan, Nyas chief Ramakant Dubey said.

He said the decision to hold the pilgrimage for two months was taken at a meeting of representatives of the Nyas, All Jammu Hotel and Lodges Association and some prominent citizens here yesterday.

The date of commencement of the yatra will not be changed even if the government authorities do not cooperate, the meeting resolved while condemning CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s insistence for not allowing the pilgrimage for two months despite appeals by several Hindu and trade organisations. The Nyas will start registering pilgrims in Jammu a week ahead.
