AMBALA, May 27: Even as the electricity supply to Ambala Sadar improved a little yesterday, the residents at Ambala City blocked traffic on the Chandigarh-Hisar national highway at the Manav Chowk here for about three hours last night in support of their demand for a regular supply of power.
The improvement in the power supply came after the meeting between the Haryana State Electricity Board chairman Ranjit Issar and the local legislator Anil Vij at Panchkula yesterday.
The Sadar town, however, received uninterrupted supply barring a few minor trippings of short durations. Vij informed the people that the HSEB chairman had ordered to arrange for more transformers to be installed at three sub-stations for uninterrupted power supply.
The residents of Sadar area also enjoyed a normal drinking water supply as the public health tubewells worked to their full capacity after several days. According to public health authorities, if an uninterrupted power supply continued to the tubewells, there would be no shortage of drinking water in the town. He added that the department had installed stabilisers to run the tubewells even during low voltage.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Navraj Sandhu, after holding meetings with public representatives from the twin towns and rural areas, served a warning to HSEB officials to listen to the grievances and cooperate with the public in matters relating to power problems. She directed the HSEB officials to give prior information of power cuts to the public and desist from discrimination in electricity distribution. She also warned those found involved in power thefts of strict action. She, however, appealed to the consumers to avoid using air-conditioners during the peak load hours.
CO-OP BANKS STIR PLAN:
The employees of the Central Co-operative Banks in Haryana decided at a meeting held here yesterday to adopt an agitational approach to press the government for grant of revised pay-scales. The CCB Employees Association decided to wear black badges for a week from June 15 and then observe a pen-down strike on June 23.
