Amma, I have won: a choking Anand to his mother

“With a choking voice, Anand said ‘amma, I have won. I am the world champion for the second time,” she said.

“The most striking point in his win was that he did not lose any game in Mexico City and he will be crossing the 2800 mark in the ELO.”

“Each and every win in tournaments and championships are important but the Mexico City win is more special since he proved a point that it cannot be taken away from him for sometime,” she said.

Asked about celebrations at home she said, “Anand does not even celebrate his birthdays. He always want to be with family whenever he visits home and food of his choice is cooked and we eat together.

Meanwhile, Manuel Aaron, the first Indian to achieve an IM title, who is also the Secretary of Tamil Nadu Chess Association said “Anand has justified his status in the world of chess. He had something to prove, which he achieved in great measure of comfort.”

“Anand’s second world champion title is a boost to every aspiring kid in India and the mind game will progress further in our country where youngsters are already ruling in age group world level competitions,” he said.

On celebrations on Anand’s arrival in mid-October, he said “we cannot match cricket in publicity but it is (Anand’s) a great achievement. We will plan and do our best to give a fitting reception,” he said.
