NEW DELHI, December 1: Students from Aligarh Muslim Univeristy protested on Parliament Street this afternoon. They were joined by MP Sheila Gautam, members of the Jawaharlal Nehru University students union, Jamia Hamdard, Jamia Islamia, National Students Union of India, Students Federation of India and Chattra Janata Dal.

The students submitted a memorandum of their demands to the prime minister. Following this, they walked from Jantar Mantar to Parliament to draw the attention of parliamentarians to their grievances. They demanded the “immediate recall of vice-chancellor Mehmood ul Rehman” who, they say, “has violated all democratic norms.” Some AMU students, with JNUSU president Vijoo Krishnan, have begun a hunger strike.
