An arty play

A truly cultural play, Art is based on a painting. It is about three friends, one of whom buys a painting for 2,00,000 Francs. The only problem is that his new work of art is white on white. The three friends are portrayed by Rahul Bose, Sohrab Ardeshir and Zafar Karachiwala. Written by Yasmina Reza (a French-Iranian playwright) and directed by Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, this comedy has already won awards in France and England. It first opened in London last year to rave reviews.

Colours of life

Photographer Kishore Gandhi’s first-ever exhibition titled Colours of America, is a result of his seven-week tour of the country last year. Fifty-eight-year-old Gandhi has had no formal training in photography. "It is just a hobby I took to a few years ago," he says. And although he has not put a price tag on any of his 71 photographs on display, he is not averse to the idea of selling them. "But that is not my primary objective. I was fascinated by the range of colours I saw at places like the Grand Canyon, the Golden Gate bridge and the Niagara falls. And I wanted to put them together in the form of an exhibition," he says.

While Gandhi is still unsure about the kind of response his first effort will evoke, he is already working on his next project. "I want to photograph all the heritage buildings in Mumbai. I also want to capture the marriage customs in different parts of India. I have travelled across the country during the course of my work and observed these fascinating rituals," he says.
