ROOPNAGAR, Nov 24: Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu has said that all the major development projects aimed at bringing Anandpur Sahib on the international map would be completed before Baisakhi. These include upgradation of Anandpur Sahib Railway Station, construction of a three-star hotel, a kisan bhawan and the landscaping project.
Stating that the projects were part of a mission and not one man’s job, Sidhu ruled out any setback to the development of Anandpur Sahib in the aftermath of resignation of Hamdard, president of the executive committee of Anandpur Sahib Foundation. Sidhu was confident that the district administration with the help of the state government would be able to transfer the traditional venue of Baisakhi festival from Talwandi Sabo to Anandpur Sahib next year.
Sidhu said that the Garshankar-road would also be repaired before the main event. He added that the proposed Dabeta bridge, which would directly link certain areas of the Himachal Pradesh with the district, shall also be completed before April.
The DC said that there was some confusion when Chandigarh-based scholar Dr Harnam Singh Shan was harassed outside the venue of foundation stone laying ceremony. “The authorities now plan to segregate the VIP and public routes for the main function,”he added.
In a significant announcement, Sidhu revealed that the Spice company would raise a transmission centre in Kiratpur Sahib to pave way for mobile phone service in Anandpur Sahib area. Adding that the wireless system was often jammed with the arrival of VIP cars, which were equipped with jammers, Sidhu said, “We now plan to have special control rooms with intercom telephones and mobile phones to avoid communication bottlenecks during the next function”.
