HYDERABAD, July 20: The Andhra Pradesh, fast emerging as a major destination for the information technology industry, has urged the Centre to enact cyber laws and end the monopoly of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) in internet services to create ``electronic governments'' throughout the country.In a project report on ``electronic government'', submitted to the Prime Minister I K Gujral in Delhi recently, the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called for radical policy changes to assimilate the information revolution and meet requirements of ``paperless governance''.Facilitating multiple players in internet to extend access and service in every corner of the country, setting up of ``one-stop, non-stop information services'' for citizens to access government information on lines of federal information system in the United States and a National Institute of Electronic Government are among the suggestions made by the state government, official sources said.The suggestions assume significance in the context of the Prime Minister asking Andhra Pradesh Government to act as a nodal agency to prepare and supply software to all other states to herald electronic governance throughout the country. The Rs 122 crore pilot project seeks Central assistance for many innovative scheme.
