Yet another allegation of ‘rape’ seems to haunt the CPI(M) after Dhantala in Nadia and Goshakdanga in Coochbehar districts. And this time, it’s the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI), which has accused the CPI(M)’s Purulia district leadership of trying to ‘‘shield local party leader Dhonu Rajok from the police and law’’.The SUCI leadership, which has threatened picketing near Bandowana thana tomorrow, alleged today that one Samiran Bibi, who lived with her mother and ‘deranged brother’ in Dhadka village in Purulia district was repeatedly raped since last August. And after months when the crime came to light because of local sympathisers’ intervention, the SUCI alleged that Bandowana thana officer-in-charge put pressure on the woman’s family ‘‘to accept Rs 2 lakh which the family rejected’’ instead of arresting Dhonu Rajok, CPI(M) leader of panchayat samiti. The SUCI, which plans to organise a district bandh, has demanded that the officer be sacked and Rajok arrested.
