Taking a lead, the UPA Government will field Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay to suo motu present an action-taken report (ATR) on Sachar Committee recommendations in Parliament.
Disclosing this here on Wednesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said Antulay would list the decisions taken by the Cabinet for upliftment of Muslims. The move is intended to outmatch the Left efforts to impress Muslims by focusing on both Sachar Committee and Srikrishna Commission reports.
Dasmunsi said the timing for the presentation of the ATR on Sachar panel would be decided at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings of both Houses on Thursday. The Sachar Committee was set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2005. However, the implementation of the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission, which probed the 1993 Mumbai riots, may come up before Parliament later. The matter pertains to the Maharashtra Government, but Dasmunsi said the Centre is prepared to see if there are any issues which can be taken up with the state.
