October 22: CWC member Jitendra Prasada today indicated that he was likely to contest for the post of Congress president against Sonia Gandhi.
Addressing party workers here today, he said: “Anybody — even I — can contest against Sonia Gandhi, but let the voters’ list be out and the nominations filed.” A Prasada loyalist added that it was part of his strategy to announce his candidature only after the list was out.

“The party can be strengthened by ensuring participation of grassroot workers, free and fair organisational polls and holding of secret elections whenever necessary,” he said.

He defended his absence from the party’s rally in Kanpur saying it wasn’t necessary for every leader to attend every rally, and pointed out that he was present at the public meeting at Ballia.
