HYDERABAD, Nov 16: Six persons were killed and houses and paddy crops in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts destroyed when a severe cyclonic storm, accompanied by heavy rain and gales crossed the coast near Yellamanchali in Andhra Pradesh last night, official sources said.

As much as 46,000 acres of paddy crop in Srikakulam, 70,000 acres in east Godavari and large stretches in Bhogapuram area of Vizianagarm districts were damaged by the cyclone which also damaged over 63 houses in the region, the sources said here.

About 32,000 people from 81 villages from the affected regions were evacuated from vulnerable areas. Four people were killed in the cyclone in Visakhapatnam and two died in east Godavari districts.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today visited the cyclone-affected regions of Visakhapatnam district after reviewing relief and restoration measures taken by the officials.

Work for restoration of power supply which was disrupted due to damage to feeders was fast progressing and out of 131feeders damaged, eight had been restored, sources said.
