Eleven days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the appointments of seven DSPs and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each, the officials continue to be on the rolls of the state government.

Explaining the delay, official sources said the Punjab government was contemplating a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court. The state Home Department, the appointing authority for DSPs, is yet to issue orders terminating their services.

Officiating Home Secretary A.K. Dubey shrugged off the delay, saying: ‘‘We are yet to get the certified copy of the HC orders in this case.’’ When contacted, Punjab Advocate-General Harbhagwan Singh said: ‘‘We sent the copy of the judgment to the Home Department today.’’

Atul Nanda, Additional Advocate-General, who was the standing counsel in the case, maintained that he was yet to see the official copy of the ruling, even though the court said on October 15 that a copy of the order be handed over to him for ‘‘intimation to the authorities concerned and follow-up action of the directions’’.

According to the procedure, the Home Department, besides sending termination orders to the DSPs, also marks a copy to the office of the Punjab DGP, which forwards it to the SSPs and Commandants concerned.

But with no orders in sight, the seven DSPs are officially under training at Phillaur.
