DECEMBER 24: The case involving the sinking of an Indian-registered cargo vessel `Arcadia Pride’ has been adjourned by the sessions court until January 7, 1998. On December 10, the Yellowgate police registered criminal cases against four persons, including Mukesh N Shah, owner of Arcadia Shipping, Captain PK Singh, Chief Officer Vinay Malani and M B Parulekar.

The four were charged under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Arcadia was carrying cargo of over 12,000 tonnes of sulphur when she sank in rough weather off Mumbai in June 19, killing 24 persons. The case was admitted by the sessions court last Monday, after which Shah and the technical superintendent of the company obtained an interim bail order. It came up for hearing before additional sessions judge M L Tahliani.
