The CBI has said Ottavio Quattrochi’s extradition was under consideration at the Argentina Court. The first status report submitted by the CBI at a sessions court here carries the details of his arrest and the agency’s efforts to extradite him.

The six-page status report submitted by the investigating agency at chief metropolitan magistrate Seema Maini’s court says: “All documents pertaining to the extradition have been submitted in the Argentinean court and its decision was awaited now.”

Although the exact contents of the report are not known, CBI sources have confirmed that one of the main reasons for the delay in submitting the extradition papers was because all the documents had to be submitted in Spanish.

The CBI has said it would submit the further progress of this case on the next day of hearing that was April 13.

Ottavio Quattrocchi is one of the main accused in the Rs 133 crore Bofors payoff case. It is alleged that during the Bofors gun deal with India in 1986, Quattrocchi was the intermediary in the deal who had channeled Rs 21 crore to two British bank accounts.
