The Army intends to increase its presence in key areas adjacent to the LoC to plug infiltration routes and firm up its counter-insurgency grid. A decision to this effect was taken by Army Chief Gen N.C. Vij after he toured forward areas in and around Surankote — the scene of a major counter-terrorist operation recently.Vij, accompanied by Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen B. Thakkar, also reviewed the counter-insurgency grid and plans to deploy additional troops to counter a possible rise in infiltration in the coming months.Sources said the number of infantry battalions deployed under the Rajouri-based 25 Division along the LoC could also be increased as to plug infiltration. The decision will be taken after Vij returns from his two-day tour of Poonch-Surankote belt as well as the Doda-Khistwar areas.
