Arunachal Pradesh has signed as many as 39 MoUs with public and private sector agencies to produce over 24,471 MW of power by harnessing at least six Himalayan rivers that pass through the state and flow into the Brahmaputra.
Nine of the projects are to come up in Siang, Tsangpo of Tibet that joins Brahmaputra in Assam. Together, it will produce 5,154 MW of power at the completion of the project.
“The developers have also been asked to provide social assistance in the form of approach roads, educational institutions and other welfare services to the affected people,” Tako Dabi, state Water Resources Minister, said.
He dismissed allegations that the state Government had violated norms while inking the projects.
