Arunachal Pradesh is likely to be placed under a Unified Command for better synergisation and coordination in the fight against terror.

A proposal for having a Unified Command comprising Army, the state police and all other security agencies on the lines of the ones in Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring Assam was sent by the governor, general J J Singh (retd) , who has special power under Article 371-H, to the Cabinet for deliberation.

“The law and order situation in the state was by and large peaceful except in

Tirap and Changlang districts adjacent to Nagaland but there was a danger of spilling over of the activities of the undergrounds elsewhere,” the former Army chief said on Friday.

Tirap and Changlang have already been declared disturbed under the Armed Forces Special Power Act in view of activities of terrorists from neighbouring states who also use this as a corridor for transit to and from from their camps across the Myanmar border.

“If we allow them to continue their activities, we would have a situation which is certainly not good for our country,” he said.
