HYDERABAD, Jan 13: After all the political parties have announced their list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, the Arya Samaj will identify the “top 10 corrupt candidates” and fight against them.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Arya Samaj leader Swami Agnivesh said they would fight against all such candidates, their party affiliations notwithstanding. The organisation would also mobilise the local people and campaign against the candidates.

The list of such candidates will be prepared by a five-member committee comprising Swami Agnivesh, Swami Dharmanand, Swami Sumedhanand, Swami Varunvesh and Swami Omanand.

According to Swami Agnivesh, secularism is not the real issue in these elections. The “economic colonisation” in the name of globalisation, the cultural invasion through satellite television and growing consumerism, he felt, were the important issues.

Agnivesh said the Arya Samaj would support those parties which work against these trends and for issues like women’s empowerment, literacy, environmental protection and total prohibition.

The organisation will hold a 35-day convention during the Mahakumbh at Hardwar from March 8 to April 14. Heads of all religions would be participating in the convention to create awareness among the people about social evils such as casteism, dowry and illiteracy.
