UPCC spokesman and veteran Congress leader Ashok Bajpai has decided to quit the party with which he and his family have been associated since Independence. His mother Rajendra Kumari Bajpai is a former Congress cabinet minister. Though Bajpai has not named the political outfit he is going to join, it is an open secret that he will be part of the BSP, which has opened its gates for upper caste leaders.

Ashok, at present in Lucknow, met BSP chief Mayawati at her residence on Tuesday and it was there that Ashok convinced the BSP chief to field his son from Allahabad North Assembly segment and in turn offered total support of his loyalists to the Dalit party.

As has already been reported by The Indian Express, Bajpai’s son Harsh has been given a go ahead by the BSP chief to file his nomination from Allahabad North segment.
