The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has came out strongly against the controversial J-K Women’s Bill, demanding that it be withdrawn and Article 370 scrapped.
At their annual conclave at Jamdoli, 15-odd kms from Jaipur, to plan their strategy for the coming elections and the year ahead, RSS Pratinidhi Sabha passed a unanimous resolution against the Bill stating that it is a ‘‘draconian Bill’’ against women and a direct result of Article 370. Reiterating their demand to abolish the special status given to the state, senior RSS leaders said that creating two systems in the same country would further create instability in the region.
On the second day of their all-India meet, the Sabha also passed a resolution demanding that the Riyang tribes of Mizoram be rehabilitated. ‘‘For years they have been persecuted and forced to live like refugees. We want them to have equal rights,’’ said a spokesperson. Besides the two resolutions, the meet focussed on the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Sangh has already expressed its mixed feelings about the Centre’s performance, stating that they are feeling good, but things could be better. ‘‘The situation does not call for any complacency or satisfaction with all these good signs,’’ sarkaryvah (general secretary) Mohan Bhagwat said summarising the national scenario.
‘‘Political power alone cannot create a society committed to param vaibhav — all-round prosperity. We also notice that after reaching the portals of power our swayamsevaks get stuck in the discipline, obligations and formalities of the system,’’ he said.
Disassociating themselves from the ‘‘hype of India Shining’’. Bhagwat added: ‘‘People all over the country have to see the truth through this massive smokescreen of publicity.”
