NEW DELHI, NOV 8: Despite a three-under 69, Arjun Atwal could not stop American Robert Huxtable from running away to a six stroke win in the $150,000 Sabah Masters on Sunday. Huxtable, who was 21-under after three days was also able to shrug off a one-stroke penalty on the 16th because his caddie accidentally kicked his ball on the fairway. Atwal, fourth after three rounds, finished joint third with two others.

Atwal’s four rounds were 63, 70, 72 and 69.Another Indian, Amandeep Johl ended joint 14th with four others. Johl, who had a 66 on the first day was at seven under 281 after rounds of 66, 71, 72 and 72 on the four days.Huxtable, six ahead at the start of the day, completed a start-to-finish victory at Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club after closing with a level-par 72 for a four-round total of 21-under-par 267.

Rookie professional Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand took second place after birdieing the last to finish a stroke ahead of the trio, Taiwan’s Lin Wen-tang, India’s Arjun Atwal and American Greg Hanrahan, who shared the third place.Huxtable dedicated his win to his compatriot Payne Stewart, who was tragically killed in an air crash last week. Huxtable was a friend of Stewart, and they shared the same mental coach, Dr. Richard Coop.

Jeev 20th
Jeev Milkha Singh finished six-under and joint 20th in the first of three tournaments he is scheduled to play on Japanese PGA Tour. The event, US $1.048 million Acom International at the Ishioka Golf Club course was won by Japanese Hidemichi Tanaka with a four round aggregate of 19-under 269.

Tanaka had rounds of 66, 69, 66 and 68. Jeev carded four rounds of 73, 70, 68 and 71 and was among the handful of non-Japanese invitees for the tournament. He finished joint 20th with two Taiwanese players, Chen Tze-ming (70-70-72-70) and Lin Keng-chi (71, 69, 71, 71), one of leading performers on Asian PGA Tour.

GS Sethi tops
NEW DELHI:
Chandigarh’s GS Sethi won the first mini tour golf event for 1999-2000 at the Aravalli Golf Club in Faridabad.Sethi, who was the Mahindra Rookie Golfer Of The Year, outperformed 71 professionals in the event scoring 142 – a two under par score. He had an excellent second round score of four-under-par 68, but had six birdies.Chandigarh Rajiv Kumar scored 145 to bag the runner-up prize. Close to heels were Delhiites Naman Dawar and Trilok Chand Sharma, each with a score of 146.
