The Civil Aviation Ministry on Tuesday invited applications for the post of the Chief Managing Director (CMD) of the National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL) that was operationalised this August after the merger of Air India and the Indian Airlines.
The tenure of the present CMD V Thulasidas will end in March next year. The ministry’s advertisement says the CMD would be accountable to the board of directors and the Government and would oversee all activities —personnel, commercial and financial, corporate planning and project implementation. With an employee strength of nearly 33,000, a fleet of 140 aircraft and an expected turnover of Rs 15,000 crore, NACIL is looking for a CMD who can help achieve its ‘corporate objectives and performance parameters’ for the next five years, starting April 2008.
The ministry’s advertisement says that officials of the level of Additional Secretary or its equivalent, including Lieutenant-General in the Army and equivalent posts in the Navy and the Air Force, could be considered on deputation, provided there is cadre clearance. The post is open to applicants with technical/ MBA qualifications and familiarity with commercial and financial operations in the air transport sector.
An IAS officer of Tripura cadre, Vasudevan Thulasidas, was the former Chief Secretary of Tripura before he assumed charge as CMD, Air India, in December 2003.
