MUMBAI, JAN 21: Avish Jaiswal of Sydenham won the singles title in the Inter-Collegiate squash championships, defeating Saket Bali of NM Commerce 15-13, 15-13, 15-14 in the final held at Cricket Club of India court.
Amitpal Kohli of Mithibai won the third place after he got past Carl Bokdawala of Rodrigues 15-13, 15-12, 12-15, 14-15, 15-11.
In team championships, MMK defeated Sydenham 2-1 while Mithibai defeated St Xavier’s 2-0.
Bombay Fort win
Bombay Fort Sports Club won the Sai Baba Football tournament, sponsored by Sai Baba Pooja Samithi, defeating Star of Canara 3-1 in the final. Rohan Kunder 2 and J Rodrigues scored for the winners while Sukumar reduced the margin for the losing team.
St. Joseph’s prevail
St. Joseph’s, ITI defeated Rhino 2-1 in the first round of the Senior Don Bosco Challenge Cup, organised by Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kurla and held at the Joseph’s ground ITI.
Suresh Alle and Rakesh scored for the winners while Ashish Bhoir reduced the margin.
BARC downBEST
BARC beat BEST 3-1 in the Punjab National Bank sponsored BHA hockey league at the Khalsa College Ground today.
Playing in Pool A, BARC shot into the lead through in the 5th minute through Rajneesh Kumar. BEST’s efforts resulted in the equaliser through Prashant Khanvilkar who exploited a defensive blunder in the 35th minute.
But BARC grabbed the game in the dying minutes when Atul Tak slammed in two goals.
Thipsay triumphs
Abhay Thipsay won the Maharashtra State Government-organised Chess tourney at Sachivalaya Gymkhana. JM Pathak won the second spot with six points.
