CHANDIGARH, Oct 30: Students of Moga’s Lala Lajpat Rai Ayurvedic Medical College staged a dharna here today near the Sector 17 Chandigarh Housing Board roundabout.
They raised slogans against the college management and appealed to the Punjab government to “save” them as they fear that they might lose two years if their examinations are not held soon. “The examinations were due in April this year when they completed their 18-month session,” they say.
The students allege that the college management has been restrained by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) on “complaints of irregularities in its functioning. This included admitting more students than were permissible”.
The college was granted Central Council of Indian Medicine approval on the condition that it will get the University affiliation which it did not get, the students added.
“Faculty exams are the only course available to us,” they said and added “while the Central Council of Indian Medicine doesn’t allow it, faculty exams were allowed in a Muktsar institute”.
They have also demanded an inquiry into the functioning of the college.
